AC air filter supply and replacement in Dubai

Power Zone Dubai supplies and replaces air-conditioning filters across Dubai with its own in-house teams and a free quotation. Filters are the cheapest part of an air-conditioning system and the one that decides how much Dubai dust reaches coils, ducts and lungs. This guide explains what the Dubai Building Code and Dubai Municipality expect from filters, how to choose the right one for each unit, when to clean or replace it, and what a proper filter service records.

Before booking pest control or bed bug treatment

Send the property type, community, affected rooms, the pest or signs observed and how long the problem has been present. Tell the team about previous treatments, children, pets and site-access requirements so these can be considered when planning the visit.

For a Dubai Municipality approval-related enquiry, request current documentation for the performing provider and technicians before agreeing to the work. Regulatory information on this page does not replace checking the documents for the service being booked.

For bed bug treatment, confirm the rooms covered, preparation instructions, visit and follow-up scope, exclusions and re-entry instructions. Do not treat a starting price as the total cost of the complete treatment plan. The current rate card shows published line items; the quotation confirms the scope for the actual case.

Power Zone supplies and replaces AC air filters in Dubai with its own in-house teams. The Dubai Building Code (H.4.12.5) requires HVAC systems to have approved filters to the minimum MERV recommended under ASHRAE guidance, filters in the return air upstream of cooling coils, and media, HEPA and electrostatic filters tested to UL 900, UL 586 and UL 867. Dubai Municipality's indoor air quality guideline sets minimum arrestance of 60% for outdoor-air filters and 80% for indoor-air filters, requires filter condition, including pressure drop, to be checkable at any time, and says filters must be cleaned or replaced so they never clog. Power Zone's rate card lists AC filter cleaning from AED 60 per unit, excluding VAT.

Why filters matter in Dubai

Every air-conditioning system in Dubai moves a large volume of air through its coils for most of the year, and that air carries fine sand, construction dust, fibres from furnishings and particles from cooking. The filter is the barrier that keeps that load out of the coil, the fan and the ducts. When it works, coils stay cleaner, airflow stays steady and the room receives cleaner air; when it is clogged, damaged or bypassed, dust passes straight into the system or the unit struggles to move air at all.

Filters are also the part of the system that occupants and maintenance teams touch most often, which makes them the easiest place to get things right or wrong. A filter that is the wrong size, fitted backwards, washed when it was designed to be thrown away, or upgraded to a denser grade than the fan can handle can create the very problems people try to solve. This guide brings together the Dubai Building Code and Dubai Municipality requirements with practical advice so that filter supply and replacement is done properly in homes, villas, offices and commercial buildings.

As guidance, these rules describe what a correctly designed and maintained system looks like rather than a single product to buy. A filter is compliant when it is the type the system was designed for, it seals properly in its frame, it is tested to the right standard, and it is cleaned or replaced before it loads up. Power Zone's duct cleaning guide covers the wider indoor air quality rules for ducts and air-handling units.

MERV, arrestance and dust-spot explained

Three ratings appear in Dubai filter specifications. MERV, the minimum efficiency reporting value, runs from 1 to 20 under ASHRAE testing, and a higher number means a higher filtration efficiency for small particles; the Dubai Building Code ties the minimum MERV to the ASHRAE guidance for each system. Arrestance measures how much of a standard test dust a filter captures by weight and is mainly useful for coarse filters; Dubai Municipality's guideline sets minimum arrestance of 60% for filters cleaning outdoor air and 80% for filters cleaning indoor air.

Dust-spot efficiency is an older measure that some building documents still use. Dubai Municipality's investigation checklist asks whether the filtering system is designed for primary filters rated between 10% and 30% dust-spot efficiency and secondary filters between 40% and 85%, or the equivalent MERV. As guidance, when a filter's data sheet uses a different rating from the building's specification, ask the supplier to show the equivalent rather than assuming two numbers on different scales can be compared directly.

None of these ratings tells the whole story on its own. The same guideline stresses that filter fit, sealing and maintenance matter, which is why a high rating installed with gaps around the frame can perform worse in practice than a modest rating installed correctly.

MERV ratings, HEPA and choosing compatible filters

Dubai Municipality's indoor-air-quality guideline describes minimum efficiency reporting values, or MERV, and includes an appendix describing filter types over different MERV ranges. That table helps explain particle capture but does not mean every existing air conditioner can accept the highest-rated element. The same guideline warns that retrofitting HEPA filtration can require professional modifications because filter dimensions and resistance can exceed the capability of residential air handlers and associated ductwork. As guidance, select replacements using the manufacturer's approved filter specification and the unit's available fan capacity; do not force a tightly packed or oversized filter into a slot or assume that a high MERV label alone guarantees clean indoor air. Filter material, the seal around its frame, recirculation pattern and the system's condition all matter. If an occupant asks for better particle control, assess equipment compatibility before proposing upgraded media.

Filter types and where each fits

TypeTypical use (guidance)Standard or note
Coarse panel or pre-filtersProtect coils and fans from larger dust; often the first stage in air-handling units and fresh-air unitsCheck arrestance for the application
Pleated media filtersMore surface area and higher efficiency than flat panels; common in ducted and commercial systemsMedia filters tested to UL 900
Bag filtersDeep, high-capacity secondary stage in air-handling unitsSize and pressure drop to the unit's design
Washable mesh filtersBuilt into many split and cassette units; cleaned and dried, not replaced, unless damagedFollow the manufacturer's method
Electrostatic filtersUse charged media or plates to capture particlesTested to UL 867
HEPA filtersVery high efficiency for fine particles; heavy resistance to airflowTested to UL 586; often unsuitable for existing home units

As guidance, the right type depends on the equipment, not on the label alone. Split and cassette units usually have washable mesh filters behind the front grille, fan coil units hidden above ceilings often take panel or pleated filters at the return, and air-handling and fresh-air units use stages of coarse and finer filters with pressure-drop monitoring. Mixing types in a slot not designed for them is a common cause of airflow problems.

Air cleaners and add-ons

Dubai Municipality's indoor air quality guideline describes several families of air cleaners: mechanical filters, including HEPA; electronic air cleaners such as electrostatic precipitators; adsorbent or gas-phase filters such as activated carbon; and other technologies. It notes that there is no standard measurement for the effectiveness of electronic air cleaners, and that while they may remove small particles they may be ineffective for large ones.

For gas-phase filters, the guideline cautions that their useful lifetime can be short because the material quickly becomes overloaded, that when full they may release trapped pollutants back into the air, and that a properly designed gas-phase system would be unlikely to fit in a typical home HVAC system or portable air cleaner. Its list of causes to check during an indoor air complaint includes poorly maintained filters and personal air cleaners such as ozone generators.

As guidance, add-on devices are not a substitute for the correct, well-maintained filter in the air-conditioning system itself. Before adding a device, check what problem it is meant to solve, whether it has a recognised test, and whether it adds a maintenance task that someone will actually carry out.

Air-filter supply and replacement: what the service includes

As guidance, an air-filter supply-and-replacement visit begins with identifying the installed unit and the actual filter slot, not with selling a filter based only on a photograph of the grille. Record the unit model, filter dimensions, direction of airflow and the manufacturer's stated replacement or cleaning method. The technician should check whether the frame seals against bypass, whether a filter is damaged or wet, and whether access panels can be closed safely after the work. The service is distinct from duct cleaning: replacing the filter maintains a barrier to incoming particles, while inspecting dirty ducts or coils may require separate diagnosis. Ask for the product reference and a dated service record so the next technician does not guess the specification. Where filter changes reveal heavy dust or moisture beyond the filter, report that observation rather than claiming a simple replacement has cleaned the entire system.

When an air filter should be cleaned or replaced

As guidance, use the manufacturer's replacement interval and the maintenance plan approved for the building as the starting point, then respond to actual conditions rather than declaring a single schedule correct for every system. A residence after dusty renovation, a workshop near particulates and an office with regular ventilation loads may accumulate different kinds of debris. During inspection, look for visible loading, damage, condensation, loose frame seals and evidence of unfiltered air bypassing the media. A washable filter can be cleaned only if the manufacturer's method allows it and it can be completely dried before reinstallation. A disposable filter is not made reusable by washing or vacuuming it. Log both the inspection and the action taken: checked, cleaned, replaced or escalated. If airflow or odour problems persist after fitting the right filter, inspect coils, condensate and fresh-air pathways instead of repeatedly selling replacement elements.

Separating filter issues from duct and coil faults

As guidance, a dusty supply grille does not by itself prove that the entire duct network must be cleaned. It can point to a loaded filter, an air leak, a dirty coil, moisture at a fan coil unit or deposited room dust. Ask the maintenance technician to describe the evidence and take clear photographs of the filter, housing and nearby accessible components. Inspect whether the filter is located in the expected position, fitted in the correct direction and protected from water from the cooling coil or drain tray. Dubai Municipality's guideline connects poor filter maintenance, cooling-coil condensate and indoor-air complaints in its diagnostic discussion. A service quotation should therefore separate routine filter supply from optional coil service, duct inspection or remediation. Recording those boundaries protects owners against paying for extensive cleaning without a demonstrated need.

Buying replacement filters for a building portfolio

As guidance, a building manager should keep a filter register by location: equipment identifier, filter size and type, approved product reference, installation date, access arrangement and a field for the next inspection. Standardise spares only where the actual equipment specifications match; two fan-coil units behind similar ceiling grilles may use different filter dimensions or fastening frames. Keep spare media in clean, dry protective packaging, and label cartons so staff do not install the wrong filter during a rushed maintenance visit. When planning stock, consider expected service dates and availability of approved equivalents rather than assuming that one product fits all units. Ask contractors to identify substitutions before installation and to update records if a unit is changed. This makes recurring maintenance more predictable without promising a universal replacement frequency that official guidance does not state for every property.

Split units and fan coil units in homes

As guidance, many Dubai apartments use split units or fan coil units above false ceilings. Split and cassette units usually have washable mesh filters behind the front panel that can be cleaned by careful occupants following the manufacturer's instructions, while fan coil units often have panel or pleated filters at the return grille or inside the unit, reached through an access panel. Dubai Municipality's guideline expects HVAC components that need maintenance to be accessible, so access panels should never be painted shut or blocked by wardrobes.

In homes, the most useful habits are simple: check filters regularly, clean washable filters gently and let them dry completely, replace disposable filters with the same size and type, make sure the filter sits fully in its frame with no gaps, and note the date. If the unit smells musty, drips, or cools poorly even with a clean filter, the problem is likely in the coil, drain tray or refrigerant circuit, which is covered in Power Zone's AC maintenance guide.

Families with young children or older relatives may want better filtration, but the guideline's warning about fitting high-efficiency filters to existing units applies: ask a technician to confirm the unit can take a denser filter before changing grade.

Ducted villas and central systems

As guidance, ducted villas usually have one or more air-handling or ducted split units in a plant room, loft or ceiling void, with filters at the unit or at central return grilles. These filters see the full air volume of the house, so they load faster than room unit filters and need a regular schedule. The Dubai Building Code's requirement for filters in the return air, upstream of the cooling coil, is especially important here, because a coil fouled by unfiltered return air is expensive to clean.

Villa owners should know where every filter is, what size it is and how it is accessed. Return grilles in hallways often hide filters that nobody has changed since handover. A plan that lists each unit, its filter size and type, and the date of the last change prevents that, and makes it easy for any technician to bring the right filters on the first visit.

Where a villa has a fresh-air unit or energy-recovery unit, its filters protect both the unit and the house from outdoor dust and need their own schedule. Power Zone's villa maintenance guide shows where filter checks fit into a villa's yearly plan.

Offices, shops and commercial buildings

In commercial buildings, air-handling units, fresh-air units and fan coil units may have several filter stages. Dubai Municipality's guideline expects the condition of each filter, including its pressure drop, to be assessable at any time, which in practice means pressure gauges or sensors across filter banks and access to inspect them. It also asks that instructions for operating the building and its HVAC system be drawn up with the people who run it, so filter schedules belong in the operation and maintenance documents.

As guidance, facility managers should keep a filter register by unit, track pressure drop over time, replace filters on condition rather than only on the calendar, and record every change. A sudden drop in pressure across a filter can mean it has torn or been bypassed, while a steady rise shows normal loading. Either way, the register shows whether the filtration is doing its job.

Shops, gyms, clinics and restaurants each bring their own loads: fibres, lint, cooking aerosols and higher occupancy. Kitchen grease filters in hoods are a different system covered by the kitchen exhaust guide; the filters discussed here are those in the air-conditioning and ventilation systems.

Fresh-air units and outdoor air

Dubai Municipality's guideline requires outdoor air to be filtered for particulates, and outdoor-air filters to be protected from sprays and rain with a good seal between filter and housing. It sets minimum arrestance of 60% for filters cleaning outdoor air. Fresh-air intakes in Dubai pull in sand and dust directly, so the first filter stage at the intake works hard and needs frequent inspection.

As guidance, check that intake louvres and bird screens are clear, that pre-filters are not wet or collapsed, that seals around filter frames are intact, and that filters are not bypassed by gaps in the housing. A wet filter at an intake can grow microbes and release odours, so the cause of wetting, such as rain entry or nearby sprays, should be fixed.

Fresh-air units often feed many rooms or apartments at once, so a clogged intake filter can reduce ventilation across a whole floor. Including these units in the building's planned maintenance, with recorded pressure readings, is one of the simplest ways to protect indoor air quality.

Dust storms, construction and renovation

Dust storms and nearby construction load filters quickly. Dubai Municipality's guideline advises that renovation and building works be managed to protect indoor air, including isolating renovated areas from occupied zones and separating supply air where necessary. As guidance, seal return grilles in rooms where dusty work is done, run the system with protection in place, and inspect and change filters after the work and after a dust storm rather than waiting for the next scheduled visit.

After major renovation, a filter change alone may not be enough. If fine dust has entered the ducts or settled on coils, the system may need inspection and cleaning, as described in Power Zone's duct cleaning guide. The filter service report should note what was found beyond the filter so that the owner can decide.

New buildings and fit-outs should also have their filters checked or replaced before handover, because construction dust often loads them during commissioning.

Allergies and sensitive occupants

Dubai Municipality's guideline explains that many allergens are carried on larger particles that settle quickly and are not removed well by air filtration, so effective allergen control relies on source control and cleaning as much as on filters: washing bedding weekly, frequent vacuuming of carpets and furniture, and cleaning hard surfaces. Filters still help with particles that stay airborne, but they are one part of the plan.

As guidance, households with allergies benefit most from a filter that is correctly fitted, sealed and changed on time, combined with good cleaning and humidity control. Upgrading to a higher-efficiency filter is worth considering only after a technician confirms the unit can handle it, and portable air cleaners should be chosen with the guideline's cautions about untested technologies in mind.

Rentals: who replaces the filters

Under Article (16) of Law No. (26) of 2007, unless the parties agree otherwise, the landlord is responsible during the lease for the property's maintenance works and for repairing defects that affect the tenant's use. As guidance, many Dubai tenancy contracts or addenda assign routine filter cleaning to the tenant and larger AC maintenance to the landlord, so the contract's maintenance clause is the first place to look.

Whoever is responsible, keeping access clear and recording filter cleaning helps at move-out, because dirty filters and clogged coils are easy to see at inspection. Power Zone's guide to mold and damp in Dubai rentals explains how condensate and AC maintenance affect landlord and tenant responsibilities.

Getting the size right

As guidance, filters are sold by nominal size, which is often rounded up from the actual dimensions printed on the frame, and a filter that is a few millimetres too small leaves a gap that air will always find. Measure the slot or read the size printed on the existing filter's frame, note the depth as well as width and height, and photograph the label and the airflow arrow before ordering. For units with several filters of different sizes, label each slot so the next change is quick.

Where a slot has been fitted with a makeshift filter cut from roll media, or a filter taped in place, it is worth restoring the proper frame or holder. Dubai Municipality's guideline singles out bypassing and overloaded filters in its checklist, and a poor fit causes exactly that.

Filters, airflow and running costs

As guidance, a loaded filter makes the fan work harder to move the same air, or lets airflow fall so the coil runs colder and less effectively. Either way, comfort drops, coils can ice up in some units, and the system may run longer to reach the set temperature. Dubai Municipality's guideline also warns that higher-efficiency filters increase airflow resistance and that systems may not have enough fan or motor capacity for them, which is why the right grade matters as much as cleanliness.

A clean, correctly rated filter is one of the cheapest ways to keep an air-conditioning system working as designed. In buildings with many units, tracking filter condition alongside complaints about cooling often reveals that a simple filter problem lies behind a call that looked like a refrigerant fault.

Hotels, holiday homes and serviced apartments

As guidance, rooms that change occupants often need a filter check at every deep clean or at set intervals, because guests notice musty or dusty air immediately. Holiday homes left with the air-conditioning off between stays can develop odours from damp filters and drain trays, so a check before each arrival protects reviews. A simple log per room or unit, with the filter type and the last change date, keeps housekeeping and maintenance teams aligned.

Where guests report allergies or odours, the first steps are to confirm the filter is clean, dry and correctly fitted, then check the drain tray and coil. Power Zone's deep cleaning guide explains how cleaning schedules support indoor air in serviced properties.

Schools, clinics and sensitive buildings

As guidance, buildings used by children, patients or people with breathing conditions deserve a stricter filter plan: approved filters to the specified rating, documented changes, pressure-drop monitoring where fitted, and checks after nearby works or dust storms. For healthcare facilities, the Dubai Building Code refers many design requirements to Dubai Health Authority regulations, so clinic filter specifications should start from the health authority's requirements for the type of facility.

In schools, filter changes are best scheduled during holidays or weekends with the work area protected, and the indoor air quality guideline's advice on isolating works from occupied areas applies when filters are changed in occupied classrooms.

Cleaning washable filters properly

  1. Switch the unit off and isolate it before opening the panel.
  2. Remove the filter carefully, noting its orientation, and check for tears or damage.
  3. Vacuum loose dust, then rinse gently with lukewarm water from the clean side if the manufacturer allows; avoid harsh chemicals and high-pressure jets.
  4. Let the filter dry completely in the shade before refitting; a damp filter can spread moisture and odours.
  5. Refit in the correct direction, check it seals in its frame, and record the date.

As guidance, replace washable filters that are torn, deformed or no longer seal, and never wash filters designed to be disposable.

Planning a filter schedule for a whole building

As guidance, a building filter schedule starts with an inventory of every unit that has a filter: fan coil units in each apartment or office, ducted units, air-handling units, fresh-air units and any exhaust systems with filters. For each unit, record the filter location, size, type, rating and access, then set a check interval based on the manufacturer's advice, the unit's load and the building's exposure to dust. Units serving lobbies, gyms and entrances usually load faster than units in quiet rooms.

The schedule should treat checks and changes separately. A check confirms the filter is in place, sealed, dry and not overloaded; a change happens when the check, the pressure reading or the manufacturer's limit says it is due. This approach follows Dubai Municipality's requirement that filters are always performing and never clogged, without throwing away filters that still have life left. Combining filter checks with condensate tray cleaning, which the same guideline expects at least monthly based on condition, means one access visit covers both.

Finally, the schedule should name who is responsible in each case: the owners association or facility manager for central plant, and the unit owner, landlord or tenant for equipment inside units, as set by contracts and, in rentals, by the default rule in Article (16) of Law No. (26) of 2007.

Signs a filter needs attention now

  • Visible grey or brown loading across the filter face, or dust collecting around the grille.
  • Weaker airflow from supply grilles, or rooms taking longer to cool.
  • A musty smell when the unit starts, or a damp filter.
  • Whistling or rattling from the return grille, which can point to a filter sucked out of position.
  • A pressure gauge across the filter reaching the replacement mark set by the manufacturer.
  • Dust on the coil face behind the filter, which suggests air is bypassing it.

As guidance, any of these signs justifies a filter check before the next scheduled visit, and photographing what you see makes the technician's first visit more efficient, and a musty smell or damp filter justifies checking the drain tray and coil as well.

Common mistakes

MistakeResult (guidance)
Fitting a denser filter than the fan can handleWeak airflow, poor cooling, frozen coils or noisy fans

Reinstalling washable filters while wetMoisture in the unit and possible microbial growth
Gaps around the filter frameUnfiltered air bypasses the filter and fouls the coil
Fitting the filter backwardsReduced performance where airflow direction matters
Changing filters only on the calendarClogged filters after dust storms or works, or waste when lightly loaded
No record of size, type and dateWrong filters bought and missed changes
Blaming the filter for every air problemCoil, drain or duct faults left unfixed

Records and a simple filter checklist

  • Unit identifier and location, with photos of the filter slot and access route.
  • Filter size, type, rating (MERV, arrestance or dust-spot) and approved product reference.
  • Airflow direction and how the filter seals in its frame.
  • Date of each inspection, cleaning or replacement, and who did it.
  • Pressure-drop readings for units with gauges or sensors.
  • Observations beyond the filter: wet media, coil dirt, drain problems or duct dust.

As guidance, this register is short to keep and saves time on every visit. It also gives building managers evidence that filters are maintained in line with Dubai Municipality's requirement that they never become clogged.

Prices in Dubai

Indicative starting prices from Power Zone's official Dubai rate card, in AED and excluding 5% VAT:

ServiceUnitStarting price
AC filter cleaningper unitfrom AED 60
Cassette AC cleaningper unitfrom AED 250

Replacement filters are priced by size, type and quantity after the units are identified, because a fan coil filter, a pleated return filter and an air-handling unit filter bank are very different products. See the full Power Zone Dubai rate card for other AC services.

Questions to ask a filter supplier

  1. Which exact filter size, type and rating does each of my units take, and how did you confirm it?
  2. Is the filter tested to the right standard: UL 900 for media, UL 586 for HEPA, UL 867 for electrostatic?
  3. Will a higher-efficiency filter reduce airflow in my unit, and has the fan capacity been checked?
  4. How will you make sure the filter seals properly with no bypass?
  5. When should each filter be inspected, cleaned or replaced, and how will you record it?
  6. What will you report if you find problems beyond the filter, such as coil dirt or a blocked drain?

Air filters with Power Zone

Power Zone provides air filter supply and replacement across Dubai with its own trained teams, part of all seven emirates, 20 in-house teams. Every visit starts by identifying each unit and its filter slot, then cleaning or replacing filters with the correct size and type, checking the seal and airflow direction, and recording the work. Where a technician finds problems beyond the filter, such as a dirty coil, a blocked condensate drain or dust in the ducts, the report says so and the owner decides on the next step.

For buildings, Power Zone can set up a filter register and schedule for every unit, matched to its pressure readings and the building's dust conditions. See also duct cleaning, AC maintenance, prices and Power Zone Dubai, or request a site survey.

Frequently asked questions

What filters does the Dubai Building Code require?

Approved filters to the minimum MERV recommended under ASHRAE guidance, filters in the return air upstream of cooling coils, and media, HEPA and electrostatic filters tested to UL 900, UL 586 and UL 867 (H.4.12.5).

What arrestance should AC filters have in Dubai?

Dubai Municipality's guideline sets minimum arrestance of 60% for filters cleaning outdoor air and 80% for filters cleaning indoor air.

How often should AC filters be changed in Dubai?

Dubai Municipality requires filters to be cleaned or replaced so they perform properly and never clog; as guidance, follow the manufacturer's interval and check more often after dust storms or works.

What is MERV?

The minimum efficiency reporting value, from 1 to 20 under ASHRAE testing; a higher MERV means higher filtration efficiency.

Should filter pressure drop be monitored?

Yes. Dubai Municipality's guideline says it should be possible to assess filter condition at any time, including pressure drop, contamination and installation.

Do outdoor-air filters need protection?

Yes. Outdoor-air filters should be protected from sprays and rain, with a good seal between filter and housing.

Are electronic air cleaners tested?

Dubai Municipality notes there is no standard measurement for the effectiveness of electronic air cleaners.

Are carbon filters a good idea at home?

Dubai Municipality cautions that gas-phase filters can have a short life, may release pollutants when full, and a proper system is unlikely to fit a typical home unit.

Do filters stop allergies?

They help with airborne particles, but Dubai Municipality notes many allergens settle quickly, so cleaning and source control matter as much as filtration.

Who changes AC filters in a rented flat in Dubai?

Check the contract's maintenance clause; Article (16) of Law No. (26) of 2007 makes the landlord responsible for maintenance unless the parties agree otherwise.

How much does AC filter cleaning cost in Dubai?

Power Zone's rate card lists AC filter cleaning from AED 60 per unit, excluding VAT.

Should filters be changed after a sandstorm?

As guidance, check and replace them after major storms; the guideline requires filters that never clog and intakes shielded against sandstorms.

Can I fit a HEPA filter into any existing air conditioner?

Not automatically. Dubai Municipality's IAQ guideline warns that HEPA media may require professional HVAC modifications because a system might not accommodate the filter's size and airflow resistance.

What information does a filter supplier need?

As guidance, provide the unit model, current filter dimensions and product reference, intended use, quantity, access conditions and any manufacturer-approved alternatives before requesting a quote.

Is duct cleaning included when my AC filter is replaced?

Not by default. Filter replacement and duct cleaning are different services. Request separate inspection evidence and an itemised scope if a technician recommends additional cleaning.

Should a disposable AC filter be washed?

As guidance, follow the manufacturer's instructions. Do not assume a disposable filter can be cleaned and reused; washable media must be dried before reinstallation.

Why did airflow weaken after a filter upgrade?

As guidance, an incompatible filter can increase resistance, but several faults are possible. Have a competent technician check filter fit, fan capability, coils and the wider air path.

Do return-air filters protect the cooling coil?

Yes. The Dubai Building Code requires filters in the return air upstream of any heat exchanger or cooling coil, which keeps dust off the coil.

Can a higher-MERV filter harm my AC?

It can if the unit cannot handle the extra resistance; Dubai Municipality notes systems may lack fan capacity for higher-efficiency filters.

Should fans and dampers be cleaned too?

Dubai Municipality's guideline says air-handling components such as fans and dampers should be cleaned at least every six months, depending on conditions.

Which test standard applies to HEPA filters?

The Dubai Building Code requires HEPA filters to be tested to UL 586, media filters to UL 900 and electrostatic filters to UL 867.

Do filters in apartments need to be special?

The Dubai Building Code says filters in dwelling units must be designed for the application, so use the type the unit was built for.

Are ozone generators recommended as air cleaners?

Dubai Municipality lists personal air cleaners such as ozone generators among the causes to check in indoor air complaints.

What dust-spot efficiency does Dubai Municipality mention?

Its checklist asks whether primary filters are rated 10% to 30% dust-spot efficiency and secondary filters 40% to 85%, or the equivalent MERV.

Can I measure a filter myself?

As guidance, yes: read the size printed on the existing frame or measure the slot, including depth, and photograph the label and airflow arrow before ordering.

Should filters be checked before handover of a new home?

As guidance, yes; construction dust often loads filters during commissioning, so check or replace them before moving in.

Is a filter change enough after renovation?

Not always; if dust reached ducts or coils, inspection and cleaning may be needed, as Power Zone's duct cleaning guide explains.

Where are filters in a fan coil unit?

As guidance, usually at the return grille or inside the unit behind an access panel above the false ceiling, which must stay accessible.

Does Power Zone supply and replace AC filters in Dubai?

Yes. Power Zone identifies each unit, supplies and fits the correct filter, checks the seal and airflow, records the work and reports any problems beyond the filter.
